What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA programs involve a mutual commitment between farmers and their community. In purchasing a share of the harvest before the growing season begins, the community shareholder provides farmers with much needed and appreciated finances at the leanest and most expensive stage of the growing season (spring). In return, the shareholder will have secured a portion of food from the local harvest and will have contributed to the stability of their local food market. Supporting our growing efforts at the onset of the season greatly enables us to grow and harvest more effectively during the entire season. As a member of our CSA you will receive a weekly share of fresh high-quality organic produce grown right here in the cariboo on Big Rock Ranch, you’ll not only get to learn more about where your food comes
from, but also take in the best of seasonal eating!
Our eggs are ungraded and not packaged to size, shape or colour, they are as they are laid! You’ll find an array of beautiful rainbow eggs in each carton and you may even get a double yolker! Our laying hens are a mixed flock of heritage breeds ranging from Barred Rocks, Amerucanas, to French Copper Marans. They’re housed in a mobile on pasture where we move them around weekly onto fresh pasture and are fed a nutrient dense diet of organic mixed grains and greens from the garden. Eggs are $6.00/Dozen
FREE-RANGE PASTURED CHICKEN
Our pastured poultry birds are Mistral Gris, which are a great alternative chicken breed from your typical cornish cross. They were bred from Barred Rocks and several other heritage breeds using old-fashioned breeding techniques — no genetic modifications, and no ‘terminal’ genes, raised for their amazing flavour, full breast, strength and health. They’ll be raised on pasture in a moveable coop, protected from predators and the elements where they’re moved onto fresh grass daily, have 24/7 access to organic feed and get to enjoy life as a chicken moving around, eating grass and bugs. We sell our chicken whole at $6.00/lb and butchered at $7.00/lb

Free Range Pastured Turkey
After much talk about raising turkeys we’ll be trying our hand at it and will be focusing on the Orlopp Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey. These traditional heirloom turkeys have a delicious, unique flavour and are great foragers. They’ll be raised in mobile coops on the land where they’ll get to forage on lush grass, bugs and sunbathe to their hearts content. They’ll be fed organic vegetable scraps from the garden and have 24/7 access to organic feed. The turkeys will range in size from 15-25 lbs and will be ready in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas 2018! Be sure to place your order in advance as numbers are limited, we are currently taking orders for the upcoming 2018 season. ($10/Turkey deposit)

FOREST RAISED PASTURED PORK
We raise a Berkshire/Tamworth heritage breed cross. Berkshires are known for their docile behaviours, old-world flavor, and marbling. Tamworths are known for their great mothering skills, hardiness, great grazing and amazing bacon! This cross is known for producing an incredibly rich, flavourful, tasty meat that chefs are eager to have in their kitchens. You won’t find this kind of pork in grocery stores! We rotationally graze them free range, in the forest, with access to grassland, where they get to root, farrow in the mud, nestle deep in hay piles and just be a pig. Along with their all day wild forage buffet they also enjoy organic vegetable scraps from our garden and are raised on a diet of whole, non-GMO, organic local grain. Our forest raised pork is sold in half or whole pig shares. We charge $7.00/lb for the final hanging weight plus slaughter & butcher fees (typically cost is around $100 per half pig share). Generally, the final hanging weight of a half pig share is between 80 to 100lbs.
A $200 non-refundable deposit is taken up front as your commitment to purchase a share. This helps with some of the initial costs of raising the pigs. The remaining balance is due upon pick-up. We accept payment by cash, cheque, or e-mail money transfer.

OUR WEEKLY VEGETABLE HARVEST BOXES
We strive at bringing our customers the freshest, locally grown food and our vegetables don’t run short of this, grown right here in the rich soils of the Cariboo, and amended with lush healthy compost. Seeing we care about the environment we practice a low till program thats rich in biodiversity, keeping our soils happy and healthy.
Throughout the season we grow: Nasturtium/Lettuce Mix, Spinach, Arugula, Mizuna, Kale, Chard, Beets, Carrots, Radish, Turnips, Leeks, Cabbage, Radicchio, Strawberries, Saskatoon Berries, Sprouts, Peas, Beans, Zucchini, Cucumbers,
Our CSA harvest boxes include 7-15 different varieties of mixed fruit, vegetables and cut flowers per week, ranging in size of 1-2 grocery bags depending on option chosen.
CSA pick ups happen on farm Thursdays, 100 Mile House Farmers Market on Fridays and Interlakes Farmers Market on Saturdays.
